Adams Morgan-Madam’s Organ

I was walking down a side street in Adams Morgan and a car blew up. Just like that. The sound of the paint sizzling and the occasional pop and hiss of the tires exploding, a column of dark smoke rising up into the heat of the afternoon as people hung around and watched the show, making photos with their happy snap cameras and iPhones.

Then one day George Clooney came to Washington, right up to Capitol Hill for a hearing on the inhumane suffering and violence in Sudan. In his salt and pepper hair and scruffy beard he wowed the senators with his smile and the women went all giggly….so this is Capitol Hill on a fun day, and Peta or Code Pink weren’t even around…they make it fun too.

Adams Morgan-Madam’s Organ! Say it ten times fast. One of a few neighborhoods I love to hang out in, eating the food, obviously, and meeting the neat people who call it home. I had a pretty good shrimp-oyster po’boy sandwich at Bardia’s New Orleans Cafe…if the rest of the creole fare is half as good as the sandwich then you’re in for a treat! Gumbo, jambalaya (both versions on the menu), etouffee and even those beloved beignets! Note to self: eat there again. Soon.
